seem to sign a letter we have not
read, to assume duties which we ignore.
How can we strengthen our life
in the Church? We are Orthodox and
all the treasures of the Church are at
our service her prayers, her sacraments. Learn to know these treasures
and be nourished by them. The direction of a spiritual father, continual contact with him. Frequent resort to the
sacraments, careful preparation before
receiving them, participation in Church
services, prayer at home, the daily
reading of the Gospels and religious
books, the observance of the Church's
calendar of fasts and feasts, friendship
and frequent contact with people who
believe and who belong to the Church.
Christianity is not merely a philosophical system, it is a life, a special
way of life and this must be studied
and lived continuously—literally, every
day. The Church is alive and will live
forever! Let us not hang like dry, withered leaves on this ever-living tree!

The new husband watched his wife
prepare her first ham and noticed that she
cut off a few inches from the end. It
seemed senseless so he asked, "Why?" she
replied, I really don’t know, but my mother
always did it that way." They both puzzled
over the fact that there must be a reason for
what she had watched her mother do so
many limes. She decided to call and find
out. Her mother replied, "My mother always did it that way, and I just do it because she did, I guess." So they phoned
Grandma. "Oh," said the elderly one, "I
had to always cut off a bit of the end because my pan was too small."
Grandma had a good reason for
what she did. The others had done it for no
reason at all except "I saw my mother do
it."
How many of our people celebrate their
Slava’s on Wednesday and Friday and the
Lenten season with not Lenten food -pig
and lamb. My parents and grandparents did
this way.
How true of many religious people.
They blindly follow the parents in religious
matters without ever giving any thought to
whether or not it is the proper thing to do.
Asked why they do certain things, they usually answer, "My parents believed that
way" or "If it was good enough for my
mother it is good enough for me” or "I was
just brought up that way." If you are like
that, please do some investigating

On the walls of
the catacombs in Rome
there is sometimes painted
the figure of a woman
praying, the Orans. She is
gazing towards heaven ,
her open hands raised with the palms upwards. This is one of the most ancient of
Christian icons. Whom does she represent the Blessed Virgin Mary , the Church, or the
soul at prayer? Or perhaps all three at once?
However it is interpreted, this icon depicts a
basic Christian attitude: that of invocation,
calling down or waiting upon the Holy Spirit.
There are three main positions that
we can assume with our hands, and each has
its own symbolic meaning. Our hands may
be closed, our fists clenched, as a gesture of
defiance or in an effort to grasp and to hold
fast, thus expressing aggression or fear. At
the other extreme our hands may hang listlessly by our sides, neither defiant nor receptive. Or see, as a third possibility, our hands
may be lifted up like those of the Orans, no
longer clenched but open, no longer listless
but ready to receive the gifts of the Spirit. An
all-important lesson upon the spiritual Way is
understanding how to unclench our fists and
to open our hands. Each hour and minute we
are to make our own the action of the heaven,
saying to the Spirit, COME.
The whole aim of the of the Christian life is to be a Spirit-bearer, to live in the
Spirit of God, to breathe the Spirit of God.
What happened to the first Christians
on the day of Pentecost happens also to each
of us when, immediately following our Bap-

tism, we are in the Orthodox practice
anointed with Chrism or MYRORU (This, the
second sacrament of Christian initiation, corresponds to Confirmation in the Western tradition.) The newly baptized, whether infant or
adult, is marked by the priest on the forehead,
eyes, nostrils, mouth, ears, breast, hands and
feet, with the words, "The seal of the gift of the
Holy Spirit". This This is for each one a personal Pentecost: the Spirit, who descended visi
bly upon the Apostles in tongues of fire, descends upon every one of us invisibly, yet with
no less reality and power.
Each becomes an 'anointed one', a
'Christ' after the likeness of Jesus the Messiah.
Each is sealed with the charismata of the Comforter. From the moment of our baptism and
Chrismation the Holy Spirit, together with
Christ, comes to dwell in the innermost shrine
of our heart. Although we say to the Spirit
'Come", he is already within us. However careless and indifferent the baptized may be in
their subsequent life, this indwelling presence
of the Spirit is never totally withdrawn. But
unles we co-operate with God's grace- unless,
through the exercise of our free will, we struggle to perform the commandments-it is likely
that the Spirit's presence within us will remain
hidden and unconscious. As pilgrims on the
Way, then, it is our purpose to advance from
the stage where the grace of the Spirit is present and active within us in a hidden way, to
the point of conscious awareness, when we
know the Spirit's power openly, directly, with
the full perception of our heart. I am come to
cast fire on the earth,' Christ said,' and how I
wish it were already kindled!' (Luke 12:49).
The Pentecostal spark of the Spirit, existing in
each one of us from baptism, is to be kindled
into a living flame. We are to become what we
are.

Constantine's parents were Emperor
Constantius Chlorus and the Empress Helena. Chlorus had other children by another
wife, but from Helena he had only
Constantine. After his coronation Constantine fought three great battles: one,
against Maxentius, a Roman tyrant; the
second, against the Scythians on the Danube and the third, against the Byzantines. Before the battle with Maxentius,
while Constantine was greatly concerned
and in doubt about his success, a brilliant
Cross appeared to him in the sky during
the day, completely adorned with stars
and written on the Cross were these
words: "By this Sign Conquer." Astonished, the emperor ordered a large cross
to be forged similar to the one that appeared to him and that it be carried before
the army. By the power of the Cross he
achieved a glorious victory over the enemy who was superior in members. Maxentius was drowned in the Tiber river.
Immediately after that, Constantine issued the famous Edict of Milan in the
year 313 A.D. to halt the persecution of
Christians. Defeating the Byzantines,
Constantine built a beautiful capital on

the Bosphorus which from that time on
was called Constantinople. Before that, however, Constantine succumbed to the
dreaded disease of leprosy. As a cure, the
pagan priests and physicians counseled
him to bathe in the blood of slaughtered
children. However, he rejected that. Then
the Apostles Peter and Paul appeared to
him and told him to seek out Bishop Sylvester who will cure him of this dreaded
disease. The bishop instructed him in the
Christian Faith, baptized him and the disease of leprosy vanished from the emperor's body. When a discord began in
the Church because of the mutinous heretic Arius, the emperor convened the First
Ecumenical Council in Nicaea, 325.
A.D., where the heresy was condemned
and Orthodoxy confirmed. St. Helena,
the pious mother of the emperor, was
very zealous for the Faith of Christ. She
visited Jerusalem, discovered the Honorable Cross of the Lord, built the Church
of the Resurrection on Golgotha and
many other churches throughout the Holy
Land. This holy woman presented herself
to the Lord in her eightieth year in 327
A.D. Emperor Constantine outlived his
mother by ten years. He died in Nicomedia in his sixty-fifth year in 337 A.D. His
body was interred in the Church of the
Twelve Apostles in Constantinople.

ISN'T YOUR BAG HEAVY
ENOUGH??
One of my teachers told each one
of us to bring a clear plastic bag and a
sack of potatoes to class. For this exercise we were to think of every person
we'd refuse to forgive in our life experience, we were told to choose a potato,
write on it the name of the person, the
date of their offense to us, and put it in
the plastic bag. Some of our bags, as
you can imagine, were quite heavy.
We were then told to carry this
bag with us everywhere we went for one
week, putting it beside our bed at night,
on the car seat when driving, next to our
desk at work. The hassle of lugging this
around with us made it clear what a
weight we were carrying spiritually, and
how we had to pay attention to it all the
time to make sure not to forget it. We
also had to keep explaining it and not
leaving it in embarrassing places.
Naturally, the condition of the
potatoes deteriorated to a nasty slime.
This was a great metaphor for the price
we pay for keeping our pain and heavy
negativity! Too often we think of forgiveness as a gift to the other person,
and it clearly is for ourselves!! SO THE
NEXT TIME YOU DECIDE YOU
CAN'T FORGIVE SOMEONE, ASK
YOURSELF...

We must create a climate of happi
ness in the church. People must enjoy
coming to a church before it will grow.
There must be a loving climate. God
has given the world the right to judge
the church by how we love one another.
The church that would grow must
have a Bible-centered atmosphere.
The members of the church must be
enthusiastic.
There should be freedom rather than
formality in the operation of the
church. A relaxed atmosphere is essential for meaningful worship, Bible
study, and fellowship.
The growing church is evangelistic. It
must be zealous to win lost people to
Christ.
A growing church is an authoritarian
church. Its authority comes from God.
In order to grow, a church must be
daring. It must be willing to attempt
different programs and methods of
reaching people.
A growing church has great faith. Its
members have vision and the faith to
make that vision a reality.
A growing church is a praying
church. We would be better at talking
to people about God if we were more
faithful at talking to God about people.

Lazar was one of the Serbian noblemen who ruled the Serbian empire after the
death of Tsar Dushan. After the death of
Tsar Urosh, Patriarch Ephrem
crowned Lazar as the Serbian king.
Lazar sent a delegation to Constantinople with the monk Isaiah to implore
the patriarch to lift [remove] the anathema from the Serbian people. He
fought against the Turkish powers on
several occasions. Finally, he clashed
[fought] on the Field of Blackbirds
[Kosovo Polje] on June 15, 1389 A.D.
against the Turkish Emperor Amurat
where he was beheaded. His body was
translated and interred in Ravanica, his
memorial church [Zaduzbina] near
Cuprija and later was translated to Ravanica in Srem and from there, during
the Second World War (1942) was translated to Belgrade and placed in the Cathedral Church of the Holy Archangel Michael
where it rests today incorrupt and extends
comfort and healing to all those who turn
to him with prayer. [In 1989, on the occasion of the six-hundred year anniversary of
his martyrdom, St. Lazar's relics were
again translated to the monastery of Ravanica in Cuprija]. St. Lazar restored the
monasteries of Hilendar [Mt. Athos] and
Gornjak. He built Ravanica and Lazarica
[in Krusevac] and was a benefactor of the
Russian monastery St. Pantaleon [Mt.
Athos] as well as many other churches and
monasteries.

greh?
Stav Crkve prema jereticima
je zasnovan na Svetom pismu. Kad
su neki od starih jeretika poku{ali
da lukavstvom zbune galatijske
hri}ane, da ih nagovore da se vrate

~istotu evangelske nauke, neizmenjivost I nepovredivost Evan|elja
smatra toliko va`nim, da dvaput

apostol Pavle opominje svoga u~enika

drugog savetovanja izbegavaj, znaju}I
da se takav izopa~io I da gre{I, sam
na sebe naval~I osudu (Titu 3,10-11).
A Sv.

poznavanja i razumevanja svetog
pisma, bilo iz upornog ostajanja pri

svega toga uvek le`i u osnovi svake
jeresi i svakog osniva~a jeresi.

Serbian Orthodox Church of the Assumption
It was written by an 8-year-old named Danny Dutton, who
lives in Chula Vista , CA . He wrote it for his third grade homework assignment, to 'explain God.' I wonder if any of us could have done as well?
(and he had such an assignment, in California , and someone published it,
I guess miracles do happen!)
'One of God's main jobs is making
people. He makes them to replace the ones
that die, so there will be enough people to
take care of things on earth. He doesn't make
grownups, just babies. I think because they
are smaller and easier to make. That way he
doesn't have to take up his valuable time
teaching them to talk and walk. He can just
leave that to mothers and fathers.'
'God's second most important job is listening
to prayers. An awful lot of this goes on, since
some people, like preachers and things, pray
at times beside bedtime. God doesn't have
time to listen to the radio or TV because of
this. Because he hears everything, there must
be a terrible lot of noise in his ears, unless he
has thought of a way to turn it off.'
'God sees everything and hears everything
and is everywhere which keeps Him pretty
busy. So you shouldn't go wasting his time by
going over your mom and dad's head asking
for something they said you couldn't have.'
'Atheists are people who don't believe in God.
I don't think there are any in Chula Vista . At
least there aren't any who come to our
church.'
'Jesus is God's Son. He used to do all the
hard work, like walking on water and performing miracles and trying to teach the people
who didn't want to learn about God. They fi-
18
......................
nally got tired of him
preaching to them and they
crucified him. But he was
good and kind, like his father, and he told his father
that they didn't know what they were doing and
to forgive them and God said O.K.'
'His dad (God) appreciated everything that he
had done and all his hard work on earth so he
told him he didn't have to go out on the road
anymore. He could stay in heaven. So he did.
And now he helps his dad out by listening to
prayers and seeing things which are important
for God to take care of and which ones he can
take care of himself without having to bother
God. Like a secretary, only more important.'
'You can pray anytime you want and they are
sure to help you because they got it worked out
so one of them is on duty all the time.'
'You should always go to church on Sunday
because it makes God happy, and if there's
anybody you want to make happy, it's God!
Don't skip church to do something you think will
be more fun like going to the beach. This is
wrong. And besides the sun doesn't come out
at the beach until noon anyway.'
'If you don't believe in God, besides being an
atheist, you will be very lonely, because your
parents can't go everywhere with you, like to
camp, but God can. It is good to know He's
around you when you're scared, in the dark or
when you can't swim and you get thrown into
real deep water by big kids.'
'But...you shouldn't just always think of what
God can do for you. I figure God put me here
and he can take me back anytime he pleases.
And...that's why I believe in God.'

Monk Moses
of the Holy Mountain
Confession is a God-given commandment, and it is one of the
Sacraments of our Church. Confession is not a formal, habitual ("to be on the safe side", or, "in view of
upcoming feast-days"), forced and unprepared act,
springing from an isolated duty or obligation and for
psychological relief only. Confession should always be
combined with repentance. A Holy Mountain Elder
used to say: "Many confess, but few repent!" (Elder
Aemilianos of the Simonopetra Monastery, Mt. Athos)
Repentance is a freely-willed, internally cultivated process of contrition and sorrow for having
distanced ourselves from God through sin. True repentance has nothing to do with intolerable pain,
excessive sorrow and relentless guilty feelings. That
would not be sincere repentance, but a secret egotism, a feeling of our "ego" being trampled on; an
anger that is directed at our self, which then wreaks
revenge because it is exposing itself and is put to
shame - a thing that it cannot tolerate.
Repentance means a change in our thoughts,
our mentality; it is an about-face; it is a grafting of
morality and an abhorrence of sin.
Repentance also means a love of virtue, benevolence, and a desire, a willingness and a strong
disposition to be re-joined to Christ through the
Grace of the almighty Holy Spirit.
Repentance begins in the depths of the heart,
but it culminates necessarily in the sacrament of divine and sacred Confession.
During confession, one confesses sincerely
and humbly before the confessor, as though in the
presence of Christ. No scientist, psychologist, psycho-

......................
analyst, psychiatrist, sociologist, philosopher or
theologian can replace the confessor.
No icon - not even the most miracleworking one - can provide what the confessor's stole can: the absolution of sins. The
confessor takes the person under his care; he
adopts him and ensures he is reborn spiritually, which is why he is called a "spiritual father".
Normally, spiritual paternity is lifelong,
sacred and powerful - even more powerful
than a family bond. Spiritual birth is a painful
process. The confessor must keep track of the
confessing soul, with a fear of God (as one
who is "accountable to God"), with understanding, humility and love, and guide him with discretion in the ever-upward course of his inChrist life.
The confessor-priest has been given a
special blessing by his bishop for the undertaking of his confessional opus. However, the
gift of "binding and un-binding" sins is initially
acquired through his ordination as presbyter,
when he is rendered a successor to the Apostles. Thus, validity and canonicity in Apostolic
succession, through bishops, is of central and
great importance. Like all the other holy sacraments of our Church, the sacrament of Confession is performed (and it bestows Grace on
the faithful), not in conjunction with the skill,
the scientism, the literacy, the eloquence, the
energy and the artfulness of the priest - not
even with his virtue and holiness - but through
the canonicity (validity) of his priesthood and
through the "Master of Ceremonies" - the Holy
Spirit.
The possible sins of the priest do not
obstruct divine Grace during the Sacraments.
Woe betide, if we were to doubt (on account
of the unworthiness of the priest) that the
27 Serbian Orthodox Church of the Assumption
bread and the wine actually become the Body
and the Blood of Christ during the Divine Liturgy! This of course does not mean that the
priest should not have to constantly concern
himself with his own "cleanliness".
Thus, there is no such thing as "good"
or "bad" confessors. Each and every confessor
provides the exact same absolution. However,
we do have the right to choose our confessor;
and of course we have the right to turn to the
one who truly makes us feel at ease with him,
spiritually. To constantly change our confessor
however, is not a very sober decision; this kind
of tendency does not reveal spiritual maturity.
But confessors should, respectively, not fret
excessively -or even create problems- when a
spiritual child of theirs happens to depart from
them.
This may mean that they were morbidly
attached to each other (sentimentally, to the
person. and not to Christ, nor to the Church).
They may also regard that departure as an
insult; one that is demeaning to them and
makes them think there is no-one better than
them, or, it may give them a feeling that the
other "belongs" to them exclusively and they
can therefore dominate them and in fact even
behave forcibly towards them, as if they are
repressed and confined subordinates. We did
mention that the confessor is a spiritual father,
and that spiritual fatherhood and spiritual childbirth entails labor.
Thus, it is only natural for the confessor to feel sorrow upon the departure of his
spiritual child. However, it is preferable for him
to pray for his child's spiritual progress and its
union to the Church, even despite its disengagement from him. He must wish for, and not
against that child.

CO-Workers
with
GOD!
hen we
speak of
the Orthodox
Christian
Church and the
work of the Church,
we think of both God
and man. According to
God's will, cooperation is to be maintained in the
work relating to the Kingdom of Heaven. We, as
the Scriptures tell us, do the planting and watering.
The Lord assures us of the increase of our labors.
We work for the Lord, but success is dependent on
God.
In the Kingdom of
God in the Church, there are
numerous responsibilities to
be fulfilled, and not one of us
is capable of doing every type
of work. We do not have equal
talents and abilities, which
means we cannot do all that is
demanded in the work of the
Kingdom of God. However,
each of us is blessed with some
spiritual talent. If Christians do nothing, it is not
because of the lack of talent, ability or opportunity,
but only because they want to do nothing.
We are co-workers together with God, and that
makes the Orthodox Christian worker one of God's
nobility. Let none of us say that there is little for us
to do! Let none of us hide his or her candle "under
a bushel basket"!
Let none of us think that there is no place
of work for us! We may be unlimited, but none
of us is bereft of ability and opportunity.
In God's Kingdom, we are not expected
to accomplish individually everything that needs
to be done for the Church.
Neither are we to choose our own methods and plans to achieve our own desired results.
We cannot do the work of the Kingdom of God
apart from God! Let us ever bear in mind that God
supplies us with whatever we need to work for Him.
Let us thus be diligent in
asking God in prayer for
these gifts. Every Or
thodox Christian is a qualified worker in God's Kingdom for some phase of the
Church's holy work-. Recognizing this should
inspire us to a willing- ..With 5 loaves + 2 fish
ness and a sure readi- over 5.000 were fed..
ness to use our abilities for holy work. It should incite us also to greater
faithfulness in doing our share of consistent work
for the Church. That is important, not only for the
Church at large, but especially for the parish church
which often depends largely on consistent assistance, time and talents given freely by the faithful.
As we are reminded of our high calling as
co-workers in the Kingdom of the Church—laborers
together with God— let these words of the Apostle
Paul urge us to greater efforts and to more diligent
and faithful use of our abilities in the interest of
God's Kingdom: "So then, my dear brothers,
stand firm and steady. Keep busy always in your
work for the Lord, since you know that nothing you
do in the Lord's service is ever useless" (1 Corinthians 15:58)
Let us all every
where recommit our
selves to God's service
and work joyfully for the
advancement of His Kingdom here on earth.

Ours is an era of secularism, of
what-you-see-is-what-you-get". The
culture in which we are immersed has
largely lost its sense of the transcendent, of that realm in which the material form of God's creation is united
with the Reality of which it is the incarnation, the embodiment.
It should come as no surprise
when blatant heretics, indeed nonChristians, such as the Jehovah's Witnesses, who deny even the very divinity
of Our Lord, launch an attack upon the
Holy Cross, saying: 'There are also inani

lead to breaking God's commandments.
Among the most prominent is the cross.
(...) In a court case in Greece, the Greek
Orthodox Church even asserted that
those who reject the ‘Holy Cross' are
not Christian" [Watchtower, 5/1/89, p.
23]. Much more to the point, a recent
Idler from a monk of the Orthodox
Church calls to our attention the fact
that, even in our own midst, there are
many who find themselves uncomfortable with the veneration of the Holy
Cross, even to the point of refusing to
accord it a holy kiss.
On the face of it, the kind of argument proposed by the \Watchtower
article would appear to have some reason: "Even if we... assume that Jesus was
killed on a cross [they claim that he was
not, but rather on a stake] should it be
venerated? No, for Jesus was executed
as a criminal, like the men impaled alongside him, and his manner of death misrepresented him in the worst way. Firstcentury Christians would not have
viewed the instrument of his execution
as sacred [evidence of St. Paul notwithstanding!]. Venerating it would have
meant glorifying the wrong deed com-

REMINDER - Our Next Meeting Sunday June 5, 2011
The local bar was so sure that its bartender was the strongest man around that they
offered a standing $1,000 bet.
The bartender would squeeze a lemon until all the juice ran into a glass, and hand
the lemon to a patron. Anyone who could squeeze one more drop of juice out would win
the money. Many people had over time tried to do it, but nobody could do it. One day a
scrawny little man came into the bar, wearing thick glasses and a polyester suit, and said
in a squeaky voice "I'd like to try the bet" The bartender handed the wrinkled remains of
the rind to the little man. As the man clenched his fist around the lemon, six drops fell into
the glass. The crowd cheered and the bartender paid the $1000 and asked the little man
what he did for a living, the man said, "I work for the IRS."

The Paschal Celebration actually began at 11:45 p.m. Saturday night
April 23, 2011, with the final reading of
the last prayers of Lamentations. By
11:20 p.m., the Church was full of quiet
worshippers. Many people approached
Christ’s Tomb for one last time and
knelt in prayer. The mood was somber,
penitential and expectant. All knew
that the glorious words announcing
Christ’s Resurrection would soon be
heard.
As the minutes steadily crept toward midnight, the restlessness of the
faithful increased. One could physically feel the anticipation of what was
to come. For those who have never attended the midnight matins service, it is
difficult to explain such a feeling. The
beauty of the moment is not lost on anyone – no matter what their age is. Even
the smallest children in attendance
know that something glorious is imminent.
This year, ‘something’ DID happen.
Fr. Dane and Fr. Deacon Panteleimon
exited the Sanctuary at approximately 5
minutes before midnight. Fr. Dane lovingly removed the Plastianica from the
Tomb and carried it
into the Sanctuary.
It was placed on the
Alter Table. The
Plastianica will remain on the Alter Table until Ascension.
The interior of the
Church was dark.
This is when
the ‘something’ happened. While Fr.
Dane was lighting his
candle to bring out
to the people so they could then light
their own candles, it was noticed that
......................
St. Archangel Gabriel’s halo was
glowing! No candles or lights were
lit at the time – yet, the glowing halo
was plainly visible in the dark. (For
those who wish to see this sight for
themselves, please visit the Church’s
website and see the picture that was
taken. The photo capturing the halo is
possible from the camera’s flash that
was used.)
As the procession around the
Church proceeded, the interior of the
Church was changed from black
cloths to white cloths. The Tomb was
moved to the
side of the
Church.
White flowers replaced
any of the
purple flowers one saw
earlier.
Beautiful
white ribbons
were placed
on all the pews. Outside the Church,
the last ‘Christ Is Risen’ was sung and
Fr. Dane knocked 3 times on the
Church door. (This represents the
stone being removed from Christ’s
grave.) The Church doors were
thrown open and all the lights inside
were turned on. The dazzling brilliance after being outside in the dark
was a vivid reminder that we are all in
the dark until we come into the light
of Christ’s Salvation.
What a
wonderful feeling we all had as
St. John Chrysostom’s Sermon
was read… “Let
all then enter
into the joy of

Feast of Feasts that we used TWO Chalices –
the first one ran out! All waited patiently for
Fr. Deacon Panteleimon to bring forth the second Chalice after the
gifts from the first
one had been consumed. How wonderful to know that
so many people had
wanted to be ‘with
the Lord’ and have
Him be PART OF them on this Holy Day! It
was a blessing shared by many.
At the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy, several hundred people gathered at the
hall to share in the Agape (Love) meal which
had been prepared by Milan and Betty Tica and
Nikola and Zorka Tica. Naturally the younger
crowd headed for the hill by the parsonage
where they ‘hunted’ for Easter eggs. The Teen
crowd headed for the Church Hall where they
assisted in serving the luncheon.
We offer
loving Thanks to all
those who assisted
singing the responses in Church,
those who brought
Eggs to be blessed,
the Kitchen workers,
the Egg Hunt helpers and those who served the
food. May God who sees all Bless Each Person who assisted in making this a wonderful
and memorable day. Pascha 2011 is now part
of our Church History.
our Lord. Ye first and last receiving
alike your reward; ye rich and poor, rejoice together…Ye that have kept the
fast and ye that have not, rejoice today…Christ Is Risen and life is liberated…To Him be glory and power for
ever and ever. Amen.” Pascha – April
24, 2011
Christ Is Risen! Indeed He Is Risen!
Those were the words on everyone’s
lips as we began arriving for Divine Liturgy
on Pascha Morning. As we greeted each
other, the smiles were a little brighter, the
hugs a little tighter and the kisses were there
for everyone. “Christ Is Risen” and we are all
assured of eternal life. As our President, Miroslav Milovanovich, is fond of saying, “Life
is good.” Truly on that wonderful morning,
life was good for each of us.
Fr. Dane Popovic, Fr. William Weir
and Hierodeacon Panteleimon served the Divine Liturgy and our beloved retired priest, Fr.
Miladin Garic helped with the blessing of the
eggs and food baskets. The overflow crowd at
the Divine Liturgy sang the responses reverently. Protinica
Milica Popovic sang
“The Hymn to the
Theotokos” as a
solo. As her beautiful voice rose to the
top of the copula,
we all felt the power of the words. “…the Angel cried to the Lady Full of Grace: Rejoice,
O Pure Virgin! Your Son is risen from His
three days in the tomb!” All in attendance felt
the beauty of the day.
As the Communion cup was offered,
the line of communicants extended to the nave
of the Church. So many people had prepared
to receive Holy Communion on this joyous
(Please visit the Church website to view
the pictures from Pascha as well as all of Holy
Week and Lent. Many family pictures were taken
at Pascha as well as many group pictures of
friends.)

Ronin Dane Popovic,
son of Nenad and Shauna Popovic, was Baptized on Saturday,
May 7, 2011. Dedjo, Fr. Dane
Popovic and Fr. Dn. Panteleimon
performed the service. Surrounded by the love of many family members, little Ronin became
our newest Church family member with only one brief whimper when he was
dunked into the water! Father Nenad remembered,
“We expected some fussiness, but Ronin was a nice,
quiet baby except for the one whimper!” Ronin’s
Kumovi, Madison Milovanovich and Nicholas
Stojanovich lovingly shared their responsibilities.
Baba Protinica Milica, Dedjo James, Baba
Tammy, Great Baba Dolly, Great Aunt Eileen,
various Aunts, Uncles and Cousins were all in attendance. We welcome our newest Church member.

money-saving coupons! Thank you Zlatko for
establishing our account with GoodSearch.
In your prayers, please remember the
servants of God, Boris Petrovich, Michael
Mraovich and Martha Mamika as they struggle
with their illnesses.
Historical Help Requested. Father
Dane would like to form an historical record of those persons who
were responsible for our physical
Church building. If you know the
names of any of the people who
made items used in our Church OR
donated specific items for our use,
please contact Father Dane by
phone, note or e-mail. It would be
helpful if names and items made or
donated are written and handed to
him or sent in e-mail format. This
will ensure that names are spelled
correctly. Do we have a volunteer
who would like to review all the old
Glasniks for names? Again, see Fr.
Dane. Many Thanks.
