the inauguration of the Transport and Logistics Fair 2011, said:
- The issues of time, distance, cost, logistic centres, number of border crossings,
that need to be crossed are a part of
every calculation of business plans in
Macedonia. There are things that can not
be changed, such as Macedonia to move
more to the south or to the north, but
there are things that are significantly
changed, such as the new airport with
cargo facilities, improved roads, more efficient and modernized Customs which
has become “par excellence” for the region and beyond.
Gvido Omladich, the CEO of ERA Group
and Skopje Fair, during the opening ceremony of the Transport and Logistics
2011 said:
- This fair is a real innovation and it seems
that Skopje has a natural right to hold
once a year a fair for transport and logistics, which according to the rich offer will
become the best regional fair of its kind.
Daniela Gligorovska, the executive director of Expo Media of Skopje Fair, said:
- Skopje and the Republic of Macedonia
have the opportunity to be leaders in the
region in organizing this type of event,
where all relevant stakeholders and business community in the transport and logistics sector will unite in one place. This
new fair provides an opportunity for realization of an additional value from the
connection of entities with identical interests at state, commercial, institutional and
scientific level.

IN SOUTH-EAST EUROPE
T
he conference attracted a large number of attendees: representatives from companies and associations such as Macedonian Railways, Association of Macedonian Enterprises for
Road International Transport-AMERIT “Makedonija Soobrakaj” ,
Railway Regulatory Agency, students from the Faculty of Customs and Forwarding as well as a number of journalist teams.
The moderator of the conference was Urosh Kramar, the assistant at the Faculty of Logistics, Celje, Maribor University, Slovenia, and the first speaker with a presentation on “Trends and
strategies in the global logistics network” was Alfonz Antoni, the
Vice President of the European Logistics Association ELA and
member of the Slovenian Logistics Association. The second
speaker was Professor. Dr. Martin Lipichnik (PhD), the Dean
at the Faculty of Logistics, Celje, University of Maribor, Slovenia,
who was speaking about the power of logistics to change and
add values to the products, to perform expansion of the foreign
trade, global competition, to initiate innovation of new technology
and to set higher standards for safety; he also presented the
trends in transport and strategic directions in Slovenia.
The third and last speaker was Nikola Dimitrovski, the director
of the Railway Regulatory Agency, who presented the structure
and competencies of the Agency and explained the procedure
for obtaining a license for rail transport.
Prof. Dr. Martin Lipichnik, the Dean of the Faculty of Logistics
in Celje, University of Maribor, Slovenia:
- This fair promotes what logistics means and what is the significance of the infrastructure for the development of logistics. Certainly, it is also important the transportation and all other
segments being covered by logistics. It is priority for all developed countries, including Macedonia to build the entire infrastructure that fosters the logistics processes. It should be
analyzed how much time is needed to return the invested money
and make a profit.
Alfonz Antoni, the Vice President of the European Logistics Association:
- Macedonia is at the crossroads between two European corridors, which provides many opportunities in terms of transporting
goods and people and all logistics operations in general. It requires adequate infrastructure to be able to exploit these advantages, the country needs to build roads, railways, distribution
centers. In some Western European countries it was registered
a decline of even six percent of gross domestic product because
of insufficiently prepared logistical infrastructure, due to the poor
traffic solutions and other problems.

Vlatko Bezhoski, an expert associate
in the Association of Macedonian Enterprises for Road International TransportAMERIT “Makedonija Soobrakaj”, who
was speaking on the new advanced technologies in logistics, outsourcing, postfordism and innovative solutions like JIT,
pointed out:
- The access to the road, rail and air traffic, the intersection of Corridors 8 and 10,
the initiatives of the Chinese investors for
the opening of Greece as a gateway to
Europe for the entry of the products from
Asia, create an opportunity for Macedonia
to impose itself as an important link in the
chain of delivery of the global companies
and to offer a sophisticated platform for
the development of specialized logistics
services; and it remains that the representatives of the logistics and transport
industry take advantage of these opportunities in the best possible way, by mak-
6
ing Macedonia the safest, the most trustworthy and the strongest link in the global
chain of delivery. This objective will be
achieved only if we offer innovative, creative and sophisticated logistics and
transport solutions.
Kire Dimanoski from Macedonian Railways - Transport
- If you have in mind that Corridor 4
passes through EU countries it is certain
that there are no customs barriers. The
very formation of the Railways Alliance
Cargo 10 is aimed at simplification of the
customs barriers throughout the former
Yugoslav republics.
After the end of all presentations a debate
was opened where all attendees participated, and the main issues were around
the green and e-logistics, topics that were
imposed for processing the next edition of
the fair for Transport and Logistics.
The conclusion of these two
professional conferences at the
first International Fair for
Transport and Logistics in
Skopje is that Macedonia has
realistic conditions and ability
to be the key link in the
process of development of the
transport, i.e. the transport and
logistics services in the region.
However, it takes modern
technology, advancing of the
knowledge and application of
the European and world
experiences in these areas

Third day of the fair, presentations and debate:
THE INVESTMENT IN THE ROAD
INFRASTRUCTURE –
THE BASIC STAKEHOLDERS FOR
DEVELOPMENT OF THE MACEDONIAN
INDUSTRY AND ECONOMY
T
wenty representatives from companies
and public institutions in the Republic
of Macedonia took part in the debate: “The
investments in the road infrastructure - a
fundamental factor for the development of
the Macedonian industry and the economy”, where the latest documents were indicated, published in the White Book of the
Transport Policy 2011 by the European
Commission. In their discussions it was
emphasized the importance of Corridor 8
(East - West) for economic development
of the Republic of Macedonia and for the
development of inter-modality. A special
appeal is addressed to the Government for
undertaking activities to extend the concrete realization of the corridor, which is a
very logical alternative to Corridor 10
(North-South) primarily due to the situation
with theThessaloniki Port Authority and unstable regional relationships. During the
debate there were highlighted also the
problems with the border crossing
Kafasan, such as the poor condition of the
road infrastructure, the inability of customs
supervision, lack of common control, and
it was concluded that alternative solutions
were to be found concerning the railways
according to the priorities in EU. It was
concluded also that there is no integration
in transportation, by which it would be
achieved a better coordination, synchronization and harmonization between the
different means of transportation; and the
representatives from the Ministry’s stated
need for change in approach to security
with proactive action and modernization
road infrastructure. It was also suggested
the existence of alternative routes for our
carriers, educating logistics operators and
introduction of innovative techniques in our
freight companies, and special emphasis
was given a public-private partnership in
the transport sphere.
Professor Dr. Christie Bombol from the
Technical Faculty, University “Ss. Kliment
Ohridski “in Bitola, as a moderator of the
debate:
Participants in this debate has highlighted
its concern for non-participation of representatives of competent ministries. They
wanted to hear priorities withdrawal strategy for the development of the transport
sector, the ways of investment expectations. As moderator, I think the debate was
very constructive, the participants were encouraged to engage in it and completely
free to highlight their views from different

aspects - from investing until harmonization, Multi achievement and involvement in
the European transport area.
On the third day of the fair, the conditions
in the transport and logistics sector were
presented and reviewed by:
Edvard Ndreu, director of the Durres Port
Authority:
- The Durres Port Authority develops
greatly and changes and there are increasing great opportunities are offered
not only for transportation of goods and
passengers, but all kinds of transport, not
only for Albania and Kosovo, but also for
Macedonia. On the other hand, Albania itself improves all roads in Albania, in the
project construction is now the road of
Arber that shortens the road to Skopje to
the Durres Port Authority for about 100
kilometers. No doubt that the completion
of this road and modernization of the port
will be a concrete invitation for Macedonian business or Macedonian transporters
for the use of the Durres Port Authority.
Slobodan Pajović, the director of the Port
of Bar:
- A few years ago it was established the
train Bar - Skopje, but it should be enhanced the transport with the railways. We
work parallel on building a highway to Serbia.
Marjan Masich, the director of ABC subsidiary
of
Slovenian
Railways:
-As a participant in the International Fair of
Transport and Logistics I announce an increase in the rail freight transport along the
Corridor 10. According to the calculations,
if we enter as a private operator in the
freight traffic, the Slovenian Railways
would operate with 30% from the transport
and the rest we will we perform in partnership with the Macedonian Railways Transport.
Emanouil Michaelidis, the general manager of Thessaloniki Port Authority:
- TheThessaloniki Port Authority participates at the first international fair of transport and logistics here in Skopje, because
we want to explore the needs and trends
of the markets in the Balkan region. I think
that such fairs are very useful for the participating companies and national
economies of the countries. Many serious
and successful companies from your
country are among our main customers. I
would like to emphasize Fersped, and others like: Blue Bell, Feni, Makstil, Skopski
Leguri, Mittal Steel. Please, let me apologize that I have not mentioned all, but believe, there are many of them. In 2010, the
total transactions through theThessaloniki
Port Authority for conventional cargo
transport is four and a half million tons.
And 1.9 million tons, or approximately 44%
was cargo to and from your country. The
relevant figures for containers are much
smaller, 18 and a half thousand containers
of total 273 thousand. We hope that in future this will increase, but it depends
mainly on the economy of your country.
