Gül ÖZTÜRK Course Description/ Objectives “History of Architecture – II” is the second of three general survey courses that provide students with a critical understanding of th
architectural developments and cross-‐cultural relations. The material presented in this course is drawn from the end of the 7 th
through the 19 centuries and will focus predominantly on the architecture of Europe and the Mediterranean basin. The course will deal with architecture and built environment within a contextual frame. Weekly lectures are not thought as closed entities but as complementing each other. This course aims to examine how the same basic needs can lead to different solutions dependent on context. It also aims to examine contrasting major ideas and their effect on the architecture. Special emphasis is also given to demonstrate parallel developments and interaction between the cultures. There will be three written exams: two Midterm Exams and a Final Exam.
