Remineralization Potential of Various Materials
and Assessment by a Recent Caries Detection

Objective: The aim of this in situ study was to evaluate the effectiveness of hydroxyapatite, fluoride and herbal
medicaments; ginger and rosemary on remineralization of white spot enamel lesion and evaluate facilities of a
diagnostic device.
Method: 10 participants with removable mandibular appliances and 30 specimens in each 4 groups used the
following treatments applied three times daily for 21 days: 1) Ipana, 2) Remin Pro, 3) Ginger + honey + chocolate, 4)
Ginger + rosemary + honey + chocolate.
Results: All groups showed remineralization; but no significance was observed by QLF and FluoreCam (p>0.05).
Significant differences between the treatments were observed by surface microhardness compared to positive
control group; significantly greater remineralization was observed with the Remin Pro, ginger + honey + chocolate
and ginger + rosemary + honey + chocolate treatment groups (p≤0.05). Remin Pro and ginger + honey were the most
effective treatments than others (p≤0.05).
Conclusions: Enhanced remineralization was observed in 21 days in this in situ study. We recommend various
treatment regimen including Remin Pro, rosemary and ginger + honey + chocolate for the treatment of initial enamel
caries lesions.
